How do I...

What should you expect when attending a Geek Girl Camp Boot Camp?

Preparation:

  • Register Online – We will be accepting payment online and at the door the day of Boot Camp – unless the event is sold out. All payments online are on a safe, secure and encrypted payment system – your credit card is safe!
  • No Refunds – Though there are no refunds, you may give your seat to someone if you are not able to attend at the last minute. You must contact us prior to the event, and give us the name of your replacement. It is also your responsibility to tell your replacement what they need to know so they are prepared and don’t miss out on all the opportunities. Or donate your seat to a woman on our scholarship list!

Bring a gently used laptop to donate – and enter for a chance to win an iPad! Read rules about popchips “Bites for Bytes” here.

  • Questions – Please post your questions to our Facebook Page before the event and we will try our best to answer them all before the event. It’s the easiest way for us to respond as a team.
  • Be ready to participate – Come with your questions, as “dumb” as you may think they are (the only dumb questions are the questions not asked!). Chances are, other people in the room are probably thinking the same thing! We do ask that you not monopolize the speaker’s time give everyone a chance. There will be plenty of opportunities for asking questions at the Help Desk where computer professionals are waiting for you!
  • No Experts – You needn’t be a “tech whiz” to participate. Workshops are for every level of learning. Feel free to contribute to the conversation during a session. This is a great way to participate, since it spreads knowledge from everyone, instead of just the speaker.

At the Event

  • When you arrive, go to the Registration tables to claim your name tag badge/lanyard. You will NOT be allowed into any workshops or designated areas without your badge.
  • Come Early! - But not too early. Chances are we are hard at work setting up and may not have time to answer your questions. Showing up at 8am is perfect. However, if you come early, you might drafted for schwag bag stuffing duty!
  • Don’t be late! - It’s disrespectful to the speakers and the other attendees, and will cause you to miss a lot of information you have paid for.
  • At exactly 9am, we’ll make pertinent announcements for the day, introducing the speakers,  thanking the sponsors, and introduce the Keynote Speaker.
  • At 10:00am, the workshops will commence. Most workshops are repeated from the morning to the afternoon, so chances are you have a great chance to get into the workshops. Make a plan for the day!

  • There is NO WATER or any beverages OR food allowed into ANY of the buildings where workshops rooms! Vermont Natural Pure Spring Water will have water available in the Grossman Commons all day.

After the Event

  • We urge you to go though all the items in your schwag bag at your leisure at home that night or at work the next day. We rely on our sponsors for help in putting on these events at such low prices, so please give them the courtesy of getting to know them better by reviewing what they have dropped in your bag!
  • Once you leave the event, you will be automatically signed up to receive Geek Girl Camp emails and we will periodically send you emails with new events, other offers, website updates and some educational information to explore on your own
  • Your education does not stop there! Read and comment on our blog and follow our Facebook Page and our Twitter account for help! Join the online community of Geek Girls and help each other!
  • Spread the word about the event to your mother, sister, daughter, sister-in-law, aunts, grandmothers, niece, etc. Email the website to your colleagues, your employees and your friends. The more interest in the events will allow us to put on more workshops and more boot camps!
